when dealing with somebody that is in a lot of pain he must establish a trusting relationship. You need to acknowledge that the patient is experiencing pain. There is nothing worse than treating a patient and not acknowledging that they are suffering. You should also consider their ability to tolerate certain levels of pain. Is the patient willing to participate or they wanting to be medicated on a daily bases. We should be cognitive that all patients have different levels and we must use a variety of pain relief measures to address their crisis. As a final note, do unto others as you would have them do unto you and give pain medication as needed.
